Green cardamom, Indian versus other varieties

Although originally native to southwestern India, green cardamom is now grown in many countries, with Guatemala and India being the main producers of the spice.

This notwithstanding, Indian green cardamom has been shown to be superior to that from most other countries with respect to physical parameters, such as weight per 100 capsules, seed-to-husk ratio, bulk density, circumference and length, as well as biochemical parameters, such as starch, crude fibre, alpha-terpinyl acetate and 1,8-cineole contents.[1]
